Character Education

For young people in alternative education providers. Topics covered include identity and self-worth, goal setting and purpose building, the principles of habit formation, resilience, creative problem solving and leadership.

Why Character Education

Here at LYD.CIC we believe in inside-out education. This approach to education is about empowering young people with the psychological tools required to not only cope with but thrive through challenges. It is this set of skills that enables students to create the world the they envisage for themselves, and live their dreams.

Why this programme?

In 2019 the Department of Education published guidelines to schools in England and Wales on Character Education, understanding that the development of character was critical to success of all kinds. However, with schools already facing pressure, further exacerbated by the pandemic, it may prove difficult to convert DfE guidelines on Character Education into useful practical programmes to be embedded into classrooms. Nor may it be realistic at this time for schools to direct additional resources into the development of new programmes.

What we do

We will create for your school a bespoke character education programme. Every school is different, so our programmes are written to reflect your students and their interests. These programmes can either be taught by a member of our team or we can train your staff to deliver lessons  internally. See Inquire for more details.

Girls Entrepreneurship

This programme is designed for girls aged between 10-14 and 15-17 to develop the skills required to design and produce their own products, which they take to the market in the culmination of the programme: the sales fair.

Why entrepreneurship?

Globalisation brings with it an international workforce, and technology brings with it a shift in the requirements of the future workforce. In this fast-changing and exciting environment, forward looking guardians and institutions are thinking: how do we equip young people with the skills and mindset required for long term sustainable success. High among this list must me entrepreneurial skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Why this programme?

By learning some of the strategies  required to generate valuable goods and services, young people go on a transformational journey. The are able to do things that they previously thought was impossible. Entrepreneurial skills will sit alongside and complement the skills needed for employment, in that students will need to be able to use their imagination and grit to create, to be focused and disciplined and to ideate and test products.

What we do

This is a programme for girls, which will not only teach them to become entrepreneurs, but also give them a strategy and bank of skills through which they may flourish as individuals of strong character in an fast moving world full of change and opportunity. These programmes can either be taught by a member of our team or we can train your staff to deliver lessons  internally. See Inquire for more details.

Nine Lives

In this programme we work to support young offenders to rebuild their lives following a custodial sentence. The programme works on building the psychological infrastructure to shift mindsets and perceptions.

Why recently released prisoners?

There is a crisis the UK prison system, particulaly for young offenders. Reoffending rates remain high. Both the physical space, the exposure to violence and the climate of fear, serve to transform perspectives, narrow a sense of possibilities and psychologically damage young people who are frequently alredy extremely vulnerable.

Why this programme?

In our view, prison for a young person is like hitting rock bottom, and when we reach a bottom, there is  only one way to go, up.

What we do

Given that the context within prisons are  so physically and psychologically damaging to people we focus on supporting young people  in the weeks and months following release in a programme that works on transforming narratives around identity, purpose and the future. These programmes can either be taught by a member of our team or we can train your staff to deliver lessons  internally. See Inquire for more details.
